Training Workshops on Cleaner Production
Workshops on Cleaner Production for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in 5 provinces

In order to promote cleaner production among industrial enterprises, the Vietnamese government has approved the Strategy for Cleaner Production in the Industry till 2020 under the Decision No. 1419/QD-TTG dated 07.09.2009. One of the priorities highlighted in the Strategy is to improve the awareness of and capacity for cleaner production in the industry. Against this background, in the last few years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has assigned Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (DoEESD) with the task of running training courses on cleaner industrial production for SMEs.

In 2019, with supports from Hanns Seidel Foundation in Vietnam (HSF), the DoEESD offered 01 elementary course and 01 advanced course on cleaner industrial production in Hanoi for officers of state management agencies and provincial Departments of Industry and Trade, Trade Promotion Centre, Energy Efficiency Centre to obtain intimate knowledge of cleaner industrial production. This year, HSF continued to collaborate with the DoEESD on this issue by financing the DoEESD’s training workshops on cleaner production for SMEs in 5 provinces in Northern and North-Central Vietnam. The first workshop took place in Vinh Phuc Province on 17th July, followed by those in Ninh Binh and Nghe An on 10th and 29th October, respectively, and finally two workshops were held in Hai Duong and Lao Cai on 24th and 27th November, respectively.

During each one-day workshop, more than 100 trainees comprising technical workers and officers of many local industrial SMEs were equipped with knowledge of cleaner production techniques and management tools as well as relevant legal regulations. The courses were delivered by trainer teams consisting of many experts who were already involved in training programmes in previous years.

HSF has been cooperating with agencies and research institutes of the MoIT and the MoNRE (the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam) in several projects on cleaner production and sustainable consumption. We look forward to further fruitful collaborations in coming years to promote daily practices of cleaner production in industrial enterprises and to facilitate sustainable development in Vietnam.
