Discussing Conciliation in Labour Disputes
Workshop on Labour Management and Conciliation in Labour Disputes

The rapid industrialisation and increased international and regional integration since the adoption of the Doi Moi Policy in 1986 have brought not only tremendous opportunities but also new challenges in Vietnam’s labour market.

Mr. ChangHee Lee - Director of ILO Country Office for Vietnam presented international experiences of conciliation of labour disputes

HSF

For example, Vietnam’s recent participation in new-generation Free Trade Agreements requires the adaptation to certain international standards – particularly when it comes to the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining as well as application laws to international contracts, which has arguably a significant effect on labour relations and management in Vietnam. In the light of this, Hanns Seidel Foundation in Vietnam (HSF) has cooperated with the University of Labour and Social Affairs (ULSA) in holding a workshop on this issue.

During the Workshop, ILO experts, researchers and lecturers from several universities, representatives from HSF,  relevant agencies of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) discussed the current situation of labour management and labour disputes, procedures of and legal basis for conciliation of labour disputes in Vietnam, as well as international experiences of resolving labour disputes. In addition, they also came up with several policy recommendations for enhancing the efficiency of labour management and conciliation of labour disputes, as well as expressed their opinions on amendments to the Labour Code 2019 that will take effect starting from 1st January 2021.
