Since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals at the UN’s General Assembly in September 2015, Vietnam has made a quick move to integrate the SDGs into different documents at national and subnational level. The country has promulgated a National Action Plan (NAP) on the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, signed by the Prime Minister in May 2015, with 17 goals and 115 targets. The country is also developing a roadmap for the implementation of the NAP and a guideline to integrate the SDGs into the socio-economic development plan at national, sectoral and local level. Vietnam will also submit its first-ever Voluntary National Review (VNR) of its SDG implementation process to the High Level Political Forum in July 2018. The voluntary national reviews (VNRs) have created opportunities to raise awareness and facilitate multi-stakeholder participation. The VNR has also facilitated intersectoral and interagency coordination to enhance policy coherence and strengthen cooperation between Vietnamese government and development agencies, as stated by Dr Pham Hoang Mai, Director General, Department of Education, Science, Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment, in his opening speech.
