HSF strengthens ties with National Assembly

On September 7th 2017 Members of Parliament, executives of the National Assembly Office of Vietnam and the Hanns Seidel Foundation convened at a roundtable. The occasion was the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). As Professor Ursula Männle, Chairwoman of the HSF stated: “The role of parliament in promoting democracy and good governance is a vital component of a well-functioning State“

The main of the new cooperation is the support for strengthening information provision and research capacity of parliamentarians and civil servants to achieve a sustainable socio-economic development in Vietnam. The National Assembly Office is the supporting agency of the National Assembly. It is in charge of research, providing general advise and services for all activities of the National Assembly, which is the highest body of State and the highest-level representative body of the people with three main functions: draw up, adopt and amend the constitution and laws; approve important policies and issues of the country and supervise the State on the highest-level.

The HSF will support the administration on strengthening the capacity of Vietnamese parliamentarians and staff of the National Assembly Office, as appropriate, in the process of development and amendment of economic, environment protection and climate change adaptation, labour and social protection policies in order to achieve sustainable development.

Key activities include high level seminars, roundtables and trainings to provide and exchange know how and experiences on economic, environmental and social issues in order to gain deeper understanding of issues with various perspectives. Also studies, researches and publications to create evidences for policy recommendations are planned.
