By order of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) of Vietnam, the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) has been developing a National Strategy for Environmental Protection until 2030 with vision towards 2040 to meet requirements of environmental protection in a new context. Hanns Seidel Foundation in Vietnam (HSF) supported the ISPONRE in holding a workshop to consult experts about the Draft of this National Strategy.

Prof. Dr Nguyen The Chinh, ISPONRE's director spoke at the workshop

HSF

At the Workshop, Professor, Dr Nguyen The Chinh – Director of the ISPONRE summarised achievements and shortcomings of the implementation of the NSEP for the period 2010-2020 and introduced the first draft of the NSEP for the period 2020-2030. This draft defined 4 groups of tasks, 6 groups of solutions and 25 targets to be reached by 2030 in the context of increasingly serious impacts of climate change, the Industry 4.0, international integration and cooperation, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  The draft is the outcome of extensive consultations with many agencies of the MoNRE, relevant ministries as well as many cities and provinces in 2019 - 2020.

During the Workshop, representatives from agencies of the MoNRE and research institutes from relevant ministries made constructive comments on the accuracy of data as well as the specificity, practicability and feasibility of several tasks, solutions and targets proposed in the draft. Based on these feedbacks, the ISPONRE research team will revise the draft before holding consultations on the second draft with state management agencies, enterprises, civil society organisations, experts and environmental activists in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City in July.
