Strategy for Natural Resources and Environment Sector
Consultation Workshop on finalising the Development Strategy for Natural Resources and Environment Sector by 2030, Vision to 2040

Since its establishment in 2003, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) of Vietnam has designed and implemented development strategies for several sectors such as water, biodiversity, and climate change. However, there has not been any plan for a strategic development of the Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) sector despite its significant role in promoting sustainable development and maintaining national security.

In order to cope with mounting concerns over environmental scarcity, pollutions and climate change in Vietnam, the MoNRE assigned the Institute of Strategy and Policy for Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) the task of formulating a national development strategy for the NRE sector by 2030 with vision to 2040.

Last year, with supports from Hanns Seidel Foundation in Vietnam (HSF), the ISPONRE held the Consultation Workshop on "Formulating National Development Strategy for Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) Sector by 2030, vision to 2040" to collect inputs and recommendations for the preparation of the NRE sector development strategy. This year, after completing the first Draft Strategy, the ISPONRE and HSF held a Consultation Workshop on “Finalising the Development Strategy for Natural Resources and Environment Sector by 2030, Vision to 2040” on 15th December in Hanoi.

During the Workshop, representatives from relevant ministries, international and local organisations, as well as experts from universities and research institutes discussed the suitability and feasibility the Draft Strategy as a strategic document for development of NRE sector in the next decade. Furthermore, the participants also made some comments on the discourse of the NRE sector in the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam which is scheduled to take place from 25th January to 2nd February 2021.
