Initiated by the EIT Climate-KIT – a Knowledge and Innovation Community supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, ClimateLaunchpad (CLP) is a competition for innovative green business ideas which takes place in 61 countries across the globe. In Vietnam, CLP has been organised by Centre for Creativity and Sustainability (CCS) since 2019 with the support of Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF). The competition does not merely seek to identify the most competitive teams from Vietnam for the regional and eventually global final, where green start-ups from Vietnam have chances to showcase and exchange their ideas with brilliant entrepreneurs in the Asia-Pacific region and around the globe. More importantly, the competition, which comprises of many hours of intensive training and one-on-one coaching sessions provided by experienced experts in cleantech industry and impact entrepreneurship, aims at enhancing technical knowledge of green business and impact entrepreneurship among start-ups, establishing a network of experts and practitioners in sustainable business, and promoting sustainable business ecosystem in Vietnam.
This year, out of many competitive applications, 19 teams were selected to the Boot Camp round. During two weeks, 19 teams from different provinces and cities across Vietnam gathered together in Hanoi to join hybrid training sessions focusing on necessary skills and technical knowledge of various aspects of green business such as team management, market segmentation, beachhead market, customer value proposition, financials and key value drivers, climate impact, customer discovery and pitching skills. Virtually led by Mr Ron Bloemers – an Amsterdam-based trainer with over 25 years of full circle, hands-on experience and network in the global renewables and cleantech industry, the Boot Camp round prepared the competing teams not only for the next rounds of the competition, but more importantly, for real life practices.
Furthermore, at the offline setting in Hanoi, CLP Vietnam national mentors also actively supported the participants in supervising assignments given by the international trainer. The Boot Camp also offered the participants a platform to exchange their ideas and contacts with each other and with leading experts in impact entrepreneurship and green business in Vietnam, and to thoroughly explain the contribution of their business models and products to addressing climate change. Their performance in the Boot Camp round is a significant criterion for the selection of 10 best teams for the National Final which will take place on August 10, 2022.
