HSF supports the Office of the National Assembly (ONA) in organizing
3rd Vietnam Socioeconomic Forum for Members of the National Assembly

In the context of the upcoming biannual Plenary Session of the National Assembly (NA) that is scheduled to take place end of October, the Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF) organized the 3rd Vietnam Socioeconomic Forum for Members of the National Assembly and delegates of the Provincial Delegation Offices of the National Assembly. The Forum took place in Can Tho City on September 24 & 25.

More than 20 parliamentarians and various officials met with experts to discuss urgent socioeconomic challenges.

Over 20 Parliamentarians and various officials took part in the Forum to discuss pressing socioeconomic developments and potential legislative responses. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, discussions also focused on the arising issues of e-learning, e-commerce as well as digitalization and the accompanying necessary changes to the legal framework. Even before covid-19, these topics were already on the political agenda of Vietnam in the context of Industry 4.0 and have become more and more important with the latest developments.

Therefore, various experts in their fields presented on these topics and entered into a discussion with the legislators.

HSF Resident Representative Michael Siegner pointed out that with such Forums, HSF aims to support the efforts by the Office of the National Assembly (ONA) to provide technical support to the Members of the National Assembly. Technical capacity in the context of upcoming legislative initiatives for NA members serves as the basis to effectively carry out legislative and oversight responsibilities of the NA.

The National Assembly is the highest body of State and the highest-level representative body of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Since 2017, the HSF has been supporting the Office of the National Assembly in providing expertise to parliamentarians in order to strengthen the know-how of the deputies and to support legislative processes of the National Assembly in Vietnam.
