To help youths in their implementation of innovative public practices, the School of Political and Social Science, University of Phayao, with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, organized a Virtual Hackathon on 4 December 2021, which followed the theme “Public Innovation for Better Society”.

Starting with a panel discussion on “Public Innovation for Better Society” with selected academia and social enterprises, participants were able to acquire skills and capacities which will help them in their pursuit of innovative practices. Afterwards, an introduction to “Virtual Hackathon: What to do and what not to do” was given by Assist. Prof. Dr. Chatthip Chaichakan, School of Political and Social Science, University of Phayao, and the working sessions in breakout rooms started. Each team was accompanied by a coach to advise and guide them in achieving their specific goal.

The purpose of the Hackathon is to motivate youths to explore new ideas and experiment with new approaches to create public innovation for a better society. About 20 creative youths participated in this year's hackathon and contributed their innovative spirit which allowed great ideas to be developed quickly. Moreover, the event provided participants space for exchanging knowledge and creative ideas on public innovation in order to achieve a sustainable effect in society.
