The “Project on Learning Areas for Peace and Happiness of ASEAN People: Rights of Stateless, Nationalityless and Rootless People”, was organized from 29 until 30 May 2016 in Phitsanulok province.

Overall aims of the meetings were, for example, to raise awareness of Karens in terms of litigation rights and to ensure that the stateless, nationalityless and rootless people learn about their rights and have access to the health system as well as career opportunities.

On 29 May 2016, the morning session of the conference addressed the topic “Project on Learning Areas for Peace and Happiness of ASEAN People: Rights of Stateless, Nationalityless and Rootless People”. It was a meeting of Bangkok Clinic, Hanns Seidel Foundation, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Phitsanulok Province, Mrs. Tuenjai Deetes, Commissioner from the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand, and was held in order to provide a platform for a cooperation in terms of knowledge and an effective working group for the rights of stateless, nationalityless and rootless people. In the evening, there was a session to support the Karens to know their rights in litigation at the Administrative Courts.

They were cheerful and eager to insist on their rights and prepared to prove their personal status. On the next day, the working group visited the Naresuan University, Faculty of Law. The future plan was about the survey of the stateless, nationalityless and rootless people in the province and methodology in proving the personal status as well as helping the stateless, nationalityless and rootless students in the university to obtain a better education and possibility of legally working in Thailand. The discussions were fruitful and successful, since the participants exchanged their opinions and experience. They were interested in mutual and continued working on these topics in the nearest future.
