Farewell Mr. Paul Schäfer

Former Hanns Seidel Foundation Resident Representative to the Philippines Mr. Paul Gerhard Schäfer [67], passed away peacefully November 28, 2017 in Manila. He is survived by his wife Linda and their three sons Michael, Christian, and Daniel.

Mr. Schäfer studied German Language and Literature, History, Sociology and Political Science in various universities in Saarbrücken, Marburg and Paris. He joined the Foundation in 1989 as Resident Representative in the Philippines until his retirement in January 2016.  In the course of his assignment, Mr. Schäfer experienced the changes in the socio-political landscape of the country and was able to identify and pursue opportunities for the Foundation to successfully pursue its development goals.

He was presented with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Ambassador Dr. Gordon Kricke last 14 August 2017 in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of German-Philippine relations in the field of vocational training.

A unique soul, Mr. Schäfer had a big heart, was funny, and enjoyed being with his friends.  We join our HSF colleagues and partners in appreciating the knowledge he imparted to us and will always look up to his boldness and selflessness.  Paul, you will be greatly missed.
