16 members of staff from Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, Pyithu Hluttaw - and Amyotha Hluttaw participated in the workshop to discuss the Do’s & Don’ts for parliamentary guides, identify must-sees for visitors and elaborated manuals for guides in the Hluttaw.
For instance, did you know that the compound of the Hluttaw measures 800 hectares, has three plenary chambers and even embraces a National Dress Museum? And that you can find the chair where Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was seated during her term as Member of Parliament?
With the technical expertise of the Bundestag and Bundesrat, and funded by the German Foreign Office, HSF was supporting the Myanmar Hluttaw to become more people oriented. This workshop with the Parliamentary Visitor Service is one of several other workhops, organized by HSF for the administrative staff of the Hluttaw.
The Parliamentary Visitor Service aims to enable the visiting of the Hluttaw - for sightseeing, but also to observe parliamentary sessions. At present the structures of the Parliamentary Visitor Service are developing in Myanmar and they will be step by step improved to make the visiting of the Hluttaw easier in the future.
Currently, if you would like to visit the Hluttaw of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, you have to send a letter addressed to the three houses. Please include the date of the tour, the number of people attending, as well as their names and the National Identification Number. Be also advised that you have to include information of the car with which you intend to enter the Hluttaw (number plate; information of the driver) in the letter. Please also note, that the letter has to arrive at the Hluttaw, three days prior to the day you want to visit. In future, we do hope the procedure will be much easier and the parliament more accessible to the general public. We will add changes accordingly and keep you updated.
