The workshop particularly focused on federalism as a potential tool for achieving sustainable peace. In this context, the workshop discussed not only basic federal principles and values, but focused on implications for a federal reform process in Myanmar. For example, specific reform options regarding the Amyotha Hluttaw (Second Chamber of the Myanmar Parliament) as well as arrangements regarding fiscal federalism and resource sharing were discussed with the participants.

A role play on federal reforms in Myanmar was also organised by the organising team, so that the participants could better understand the positions and arguments of other stakeholders in the process.

The workshop organised by HSF and CDES was made possible by a group of young Chin community leaders aiming at providing a platform of discussion on future political reforms for a wide range of stakeholders in Chin State. These community leaders were previously trained by a Training-of-Trainers (TOT)-Programme on Federalism conducted by CDES and HSF in January 2016.
