Tourism Draft Law Meeting with UMTA Member

On September 21st the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) hosted a members meeting at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Myanmar, the Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute (MRTI) and the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB).

Mr. Achim Munz, Resident Representative of the HSF Myanmar welcomed all guests and thanked UMTA for hosting this event. In his welcoming remarks he encouraged the guests and members of UMTA to actively contribute to vivid discussions and bring to the fore their ideas on how to amend the tourism draft law.

The amendments were then presented by Way Phyo, Regional Outreach Manager of MCRB and openly discussed by the members.

The draft new tourism law (http://pyidaungsu.hluttaw.mm/laws/01bill15aust17) has been circulated by the Pydaungsu Hluttaw (National Assembly of Myanmar) and will reach the parliament in the next session, which is expected to resume in mid-October.

It is therefore crucial to carry out thorough discussion with involved stakeholders, before the parliament has the option to amend/ vote for the new law.
