Feedback Workshop
“Think Twice about Taking Tourists to Orphanages”

The Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute (MRTI) with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Myanmar, held a feedback workshop on a draft publication with the title "Preventing Orphanage Tourism in Myanmar".

Discussion of the participants during the workshop

Workshop Participants discuss the key points of orphanage tourism and evaluate the draft publication.

The publication will focus on the current state of orphanage tourism in Myanmar. It also shows ways on how the tourism industry can work together to raise awareness of the issue and prevent the spread of orphanage tourism.

The participants shared their thoughts and experiences and contributed to the draft publication. We thank all the participants for joining us and for the valuable feedback!

Background: What is bad about Orphanage Tourism?

* Orphanage tourism encourages the separation of children from families

* Most orphanages do not have policies to protect children in their care

* More tourists create more orphanages which will create more “orphans”
