Hanns Seidel Foundation’s Development Cooperation Work in the Philippines
The Chairwoman of the HSF leads the Handover Ceremony to a new Resident Representative to the Philippines

Professor Ursula Männle, the Chairwoman of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) based in Munich, Germany, led a 3-person delegation for an official visit to the Philippines from January 27-30, 2016. She was accompanied by Mr. Michael Glos, HSF Board Secretary and former Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, and Ms. Sylvia Strassner, HSF Deputy Head of South and Southeast Asia Division, Institute of International Cooperation.

In a conference titled “Hanns Seidel Foundation’s Development Cooperation Work in the Philippines”  held on January 28, 2016 at the University of Asia and the Pacific, Prof. Männle led the formal Handover of the Philippine Project Management Office to a new Resident Representative to the Philippines in the person of Mr. Götz Heinicke, who assumed the post on 01 February 2016.

The event was attended by more than 150 participants representing project partners, stakeholders and beneficiaries as well as former and current officials of the Philippine government and members of the German community and the business sector.  Prominent personages graced the occasion with memorable testimonials given by direct participants to the different programs and projects supported by HSF in cooperation with its local partner organizations for the last 36 years of its development cooperation work in the Philippines.

Prof. Männle praised and recognized the long years of service and outstanding achievements of the outgoing HSF Resident Representative, Mr. Paul G. Schäfer, who has retired from HSF, and she also thanked his family for the support. She also introduced the new representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Philippine office, Mr. Götz Heinicke, who represented the HSF project office in the Democratic Republic of Congo  for ten years before moving to the Philippines.  For his part, Mr. Paul Schäfer expressed his gratitude to everyone who was present at the Handover Ceremony in recognition of his leadership and invaluable contributions to the development of the country and to those whom he had worked for more than 26 years as HSF representative to the Philippines.

In acknowledging the successful development work of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in the Philippines, Prof. Männle and her colleagues from the head office took the opportunity to meet and interact with key representatives of partner organizations and stakeholders during their visit to the country.  She was pleased with the results and positive gains of the different project activities undertaken by the Foundation in the country in cooperation with local partner organizations and thanked them for the valuable and fruitful partnerships.

Prof. Männle committed to the Foundation’s partners and stakeholders that the Hanns Seidel Foundation will continue to support the socio-economic development of the Philippines in the future and requested them to give their support and cooperation to Mr. Heinicke in the years to come.
