Thailand roundtable discussion III on “Realizing Right: Reforming Foreclosure Law and Practice in Thailand”

The Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Thailand, co-organized the roundtable discussion on “Realizing Right: Reforming Foreclosure Law and Practice in Thailand” on 18 December 2020. This was the fifth discussion of the CPG December’s series in cooperation with the HSF and the last panel discussion in Thailand Research Agenda.

On Friday, 18th December 2020, 3.00 – 5.30 p.m. (Bangkok time), the German – Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Thailand cooperated in organizing the Thailand Research Agenda: Strengthening the Rule of Law Roundtable. This discussion on the topic “Realizing Right: Reforming Foreclosure Law and Practice in Thailand” was a part of the event held at Pullman Bangkok G Hotel, Silom.

The impacts and enforcement of foreclosure law in Thailand were the main topics of discussion in this event. The CPG’s researchers, lawyers, scholars and representatives from Thai local communities participated to this roundtable event in order to explore how the reformation of the law has exploited Thai people in the way that we have not imagined and how its enforcement has been considered unfair in the dispute between authorities and common people.

The discussion was led to related topics; for example, the resolutions for solving such problems, the balance between law and ethics and the efficient enforcement of the law that can be done by the public sector. The researchers have gained many useful information which would be benefit their research in enhancement of legal system in Thailand for improving life of common people. This event went very successfully as it received a lot of interests and attention from those related to legal field and those severely impacted by the reformation. All participants also engaged in the discussion with high enthusiasm and strong intention of creating changes in Thai society.
