On Thursday, 17th December 2020, 1.30 – 5.30 p.m. (Bangkok time), the German – Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Thailand cooperated in organizing the Thailand Research Agenda: Strengthening the Rule of Law Roundtable. This discussion, as a part of the event, was on the topic “Thailand Panel Discussion II: Reform Land Law in Thailand,” being held at Pullman Bangkok G Hotel, Silom.
The participants consisted of the CPG’s researchers, law experts, scholars and representatives from local communities in Thailand. They came to discuss together about the changes that would happen socially and legally after the reformation of the land law. A lot of questions were raised and answered. The researchers have founded that in fact, this reformation would create more significant impacts towards Thai society than we have imagines; especially towards slum communities, people who have been living there would be driven out, which would be the biggest problem in their lives because living space in Thailand has been lacked and the government have not been able to provide them good living quality. More related topics were also discussed during the roundtable in order to find out better solutions for improving both the land law enforcement and life of local people.
