The objectives of this year's sub-conference were to provide a forum in which polices in the region could discuss and identify the needs for training, as well as best practices concerning the prevention and suppression of cybercrimes and cyber-related crimes against children, especially cyber-sex and online child pornography. The participating polices would also be encouraged to draft policy recommendations in connection with the topic to be presented to the respective police organization.
During this year’s sub-conference, each participating country presented statements concerning the status of their police training on responses to the threat of cybercrime and cyber-related crime against children. As part of the sub-conference presentations were given by experts from three organizations:
- the DSI gave a presentation on "Successes, the work, new technologies and the Thai system of cooperation between civil society, police and public prosecutor's office in addressing child abuse”
- the Bavarian Special Response and Training Police gave a presentation on "Child Pornography and Child Abuse – Role and Challenges for Law Enforcement”
- the Internet Foundation for the Development of Thailand gave a presentation on “Roles of and police’s cooperation with civil society organizations in dealing with and providing psychological care for child victims participating in forensic questioning”
Participants confirmed that cybercrimes and cyber-related crimes against children are issues of great concern. These issues must be prioritized in their policing training agenda. Participants also agreed that the effective response to these criminal activities must combine the efficient use of relevant technologies and the implementation of community-oriented policing practices.
