Social Media Training: A 4-day workshop for committee staff

More than 40 staff members of the committees from Pyithu, Amyotha and Pyidaungsu received training by HSF and the House of Commons on Social Media from the 19th of December to the 22nd of December. The focal trainers for this workshop were U Soe Lin Htoot from Myanmar 5th Estate and Open Hluttaw and Ms Rebecca Usden from House of Commons. Rebecca presented to the participants how Social Media are used by the House of Commons and their committees to actively engage with the public. U Soe Lin Htoot on the other hand covered topics such as setting up the Facebook pages with professional and consistent information, introducing Social Media management tools to the participants and discussing digital security and social media ethics.

Every participant was equipped with his/her own Desktop PC to be able to immediately apply the newly acquired knowledge in practice.

This is the second workshop in a series of social media related workshops for the Union level Parliaments of Myanmar. It is planned, that during the project phase 2017-2018 over 100 members of staff, who work on social media within Hluttaw will receive trainings from HSF on how to engage more effectively and efficient with the public through tools such as Facebook. This contributes to the project’s aim to “Support a people-oriented Parliament in Myanmar” which is financially supported by the German Foreign Ministry.

The start was made by staff members of Pyithu Hluttaw who received training from 19th -20th of December. Amyotha Hluttaw and Pyidaungsu Hluttaw staff received training from 21st -22nd of December.
