The Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVForum)

The ENV Conference is an annual event of the ENVForum, a multi-stakeholder consortium to promote the dialogue exchange between Asia and Europe on current environment issues. Last year’s conference was hosted by the HSF in Hanoi, Vietnam. This year, the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development of Poland cordially hosted the Conference in Warsaw 2018.

Sustainable Development Goal 12: Ensure sustainable Consumption and Production

This year, the conference explored good practices in promoting and implementing SDGs, with a focus on the SDG 12, sustainable consumption and production (SCP).

While other goals are no less relevant, SDG12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production– expresses the broad vision of the new global agenda. SCP cuts across different aspects of sustainable development. It is closely linked with other targets, such as preservation of resources, and decent work. To archive SDG12-targets it requires actions from all stakeholders including public and private sector, and the civil society.

“The efficient management of our shared natural resources, and the way we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants, are important targets to achieve this goal. Encouraging industries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste is equally important, as is supporting developing countries to move towards more sustainable patterns of consumption by 2030.” - United Nations Development Programme

The HSF and the ENVForum

One important pillar of the work of the Hanns Seidel Foundation is the cooperation with different think-tanks to provide training to government managers, ministerial officials and private-sector decision makers on green development. As capacity building is one of the keys to ensure success in the implementation of SCP and the Agenda 2030, the HSF has been a partner of the ENVForum since many years.
