Under the paradigm of sustainable development, eco-innovation and sustainable consumption and production (SCP) are among the solutions with which the private sector can contribute to the global goal of sustainability.

In this context, the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) are publishing the report “Eco-innovation and Sustainable Consumption and Production in Vietnam” as a collaborative effort of experts from Korea and Vietnam. The report offers insights into the trend of eco-innovation as well as sustainable consumption and production (SCP) which is closely linked to SDG 12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns) under Agenda 2030.

Using the Eco-innovation Index, the report measures the progress of Vietnam in the field of eco-innovation and respectively discusses the institutional framework and performances of SCP in the country. While presenting opportunities and challenges for promoting eco-innovation in Vietnam, the reports also gives recommendations such as enforcing regulatory power of eco-innovation policy instruments and improving eco-innovation technology. The report is expected to provide decision-makers with significant data on the status and future prospects of eco-innovation and SCP in Vietnam. It could also contribute to facilitating communication on eco-innovation in Vietnam as well as in the wider global society.

In connection with this publication, a proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment by the underlying think-tank, the Institute of Strategy, Policy on Natural Resource and Environment (ISPONRE), suggesting the implementation of the Eco-innovation Index for main industrial cities of Vietnam.
