The Forum is about sharing each parliaments’ innovative ways on civic and parliamentary education for visitors. The Myanmar participants shared their experiences of the 3 Visitor Departments from the different houses of the Hluttaw (Myanmar Parliament). Each department supports a visitor center and they cooperate on tourism through the Hluttaw. Visitors are given Hluttaw brochures, children books and maps locating the Members of Parliament (MPs) and their constituencies. At present the Hluttaw visitor service departments also works on Parliament simulations with visitors, where participants can learn and understand how MPs are working and how the procedures of discussing and preparing the laws and bills work.
The Forum provided a nearly 3-day learning experience for the Myanmar delegates. It demonstrated visitor attractions from other parliaments around the world, but also how those parliaments work on their public relations and how they connect to the citizens. This includes games, cartoons, applications for updated news, publications, radio channels, TV and media, but also interactive simulation with the visitors such as parliamentary roleplays, dialogues with politicians and various forms of tour guiding.
The Myanmar delegates will share the gained knowledge with their colleagues and we hope that this study will help to enable further connecting the Hluttaw closer to the citizens. The Study tour was part of an HSF project that supports the Hluttaws in their communication and public relations.
