OECD Multi-Dimensional Review of Myanmar Vol. 3: Launch in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon

In 2013 the OECD launched the Multi-dimensional Country Review (MDCR), a tool for tailoring broad OECD expertise to the realities of developing economies. The Republic of the Union of Myanmar was the first country to engage in a Multi-dimensional Country Review and the OECD worked closely with stakeholders in the country throughout the review’s three phases. This process has come to an end now with Volume 3 of the review.

Since the very beginning of the MDCR the Hanns Seidel Foundation Myanmar Office was supporting the OECD in their aim to point out a sustainable development path for Myanmar. In 2015 the Hanns Seidel Foundation organized two policy dialogue events in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw to bring together stakeholders from Myanmar with OECD experts. Outcomes of these dialogues fed into the volume 3 of the MDCR.

The major findings of the Volume 3 Report were firstly presented in Nay Pyi Taw on the 22nd June 2016 to representatives of all relevant Ministries. On the following day, 23rd June 2016, a launch in Yangon was held to present the findings to members of civil society groups, the private sector and the international donor community. The event was opened by U Win Aung, President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and Mr Jong-Won Yoon, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Korea to the OECD. A panel discussion was led by renowned Prof. Aung Tun Thet and the audience was encouraged to share their opinions and to raise questions in the following Q & A session.
