Members of the Parliament, representatives from the Department of Culture as well as experts, researchers and other stakeholders discussed about the quality of Vietnam’s higher education system. With respect to the renovation of Vietnam’s Law on Higher Education that will be debated in May 2018 session, the workshop elaborated political recommendations. As Dr. Pham Do Nhat Tien, former adviser of the Minister of Education stated “Five years after the introduction of the Law on Higher Education Vietnam has not really achieved positive results. The educational quality remains at low level.”

Privatization could help to level out inequalities that exist between private and public universities, in order to reach real autonomy. Currently, major problems are reflected by the high unemployment rate amongst university graduates and educational programs that do not meet demands of the economy. Especially with further international integration the country is in urgent need for highly qualified employees to be able to compete globally. The Hanns Seidel Foundation supports a sustainable improvement of the country’s education system, since it is crucial to Vietnam’s future development.
