The Delegation of the Members of the Joint Coordination Committee on Hluttaw Development (JCC) included 7 participants. The Delegation was led by H.E. Phyo Zeya Thaw and included 4 Members of Parliament and 3 Senior Staff from the Amyotha Hluttaw, Pyithu Hluttaw and Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.
The Delegation Visit was part of the cooperation project between the Myanmar Hluttaw, the Bundestag and Bundesrat and the Hanns Seidel Foundation. The project aims to "support a more people oriented parliament" and focuses on Public Relations, Communication, Media and the Visitor Service of the Myanmar Hluttaw. The project is financed by the Foreign Office of Germany.
The objective of the Delegation Visit was to observe, study and exchange views with the German parliamentary institutions.
The Delegation started their visit to Germany in Munich, which included a dialog with the Press and Media Officers and the Visitor Service of the Bavarian Landtag. Furthermore a visit to the headquarter of the Hanns Seidel Foundation and a meeting with its Chairwoman Prof. Ursula Männle was part of the agenda.
In Berlin, three days were spent amidst the German Bundestag and Bundesrat. Hereby a special welcome note was given by the Vice-President of the Bundestag, Mr. Johannes Singhammer, who visited Myanmar in 2016 to support a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the JCC and the HSF for the project.
The meeting and dialogues with the German Bundestag and Bundesrat included senior officers from the Public Relations and Communications Departments as well as senior staff from the Visitor Service and relevant staff from the parliamentary groups and the press core. A special attention was given to the Visitor Service and educational programs such as a parliamentary simulation game and the role of the parliament for political education. This topic is not only of interest for the parliamentary administration, but also relevant for Members of Parliament who want to enlighten their voters and constituencies about how the parliament is functioning and what the respective responsibilities and tasks of the Members of Parliament are.
Sincere and many thanks to the German Bundestag and Bundesrat as well as the State Parliament of Munich for their warm welcome and for providing not only with excellent experts who shared their knowledge with, but also with the opportunity to meet various Members of Parliament from Germany and the possibility to engage in discussions with them.
