Launch of Country Report: The Labour Market in Vietnam

Since 2020, the Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF) has been supporting the joint research project between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) - Vietnam National University (VNU) and the Justus-Liebig University Gießen in publishing semi-annual reviews on various social and environmental issues and policies in Vietnam. The sixth volume of this publication series, titled 'Country Report - The Labour Market in Vietnam' was finalised and officially introduced to the public in a hybrid launch on 18th September 2023.

Consisting of 13 academic articles written by experienced researchers in Vietnam and abroad, the 'Country Report - the Labour Market in Vietnam' provides a detailed analysis of various aspects of the Vietnamese labour market and its legal framework. It also addresses challenges related to informal employment, gender dimensions, and higher education in Vietnam and is especially useful for students, researchers and policymakers interested in the improvement of the Vietnamese labour market.

Mr Michael Siegner - HSF's Resident Representative spoke at the launch

The publication was official launched in Hanoi on 18th September 2023, during which the Country Reports' main findings were presented, followed by a panel discussion on current challenges and solution policies in Vietnam co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh – professor at the Vietnamese University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Michael Siegner – HSF’s Resident Representative. More than 100 participants including representatives from governmental agencies, media agencies, as well as researchers and students from universities and research institutes in Vietnam and abroad joined the event to discuss the key findings of the report, and, more importantly, to analyse various employment and labour market issues such as formalising the informal sector, gender equality in the labour market, disguised unemployment in rural areas, etc. At the event, the participants also offered several recommendations on the implementation of employment and labour market policies in Vietnam.

Following the successful launch of the sixth volume of the Country Report, HSF, JLU, and USSH/VNU will collaborate to publish the next volume in 2024.
