Interview on Thailand’s Protest Movement with H.E. Kasit Piromya, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand

The Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) cooperated with the Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) and the Asian Governance Foundation (AFG) in organizing an interview with H.E. Kasit Piromya about the current Thailand’s protest movement. The video of the interview was posted on the HSF and CPG’s Facebook Page on 13 November 2020, 7.30 p.m. (Bangkok time).

On Friday, 30th October 2020, 1.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. (Bangkok time), the German – Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG), the Asian Governance Foundation (AGF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Thailand welcomed H.E. Kasit Piromya to the interview “Asia in Review (AiR): Interview on Thailand’s Protest Movement,” which was the event held in correspondence with Thailand’s political situation at the moment.

H.E. Kasit Piromya was Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs under Abhisit Vejjajiva’s government from 2008 to 2011. He used to be a Thai diplomat, serving as the ambassador to many countries such as the Federal Republic of Germany, the Russian Federation, the United States and Japan. He is also a politician who was in the Democratic Party before the resignation in 2019. Among Thai political figures, he is one of the most prominent with wide knowledge and experience in both international and political affairs. On this day, H.E. Kasit came to express his opinions and attitudes towards the protests of young generation in Thailand which have been happening as flash mobs almost every day on the street in Bangkok and other provinces.

This event had an honour of Dr. Axel Neubert, Regional Representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Thailand/Laos, and Dr. Duc Quang Ly, Project Manager of the CPG to be the interviewers of the interview. Many interesting questions were raised and answered about the future of Thailand’s politics. The content of the video was uploaded on both the HSF and the CPG’s Facebook Page on 13 November 2020 and is still accessible now, welcoming people who are interested to find out and exchange their views about Thai politics.
