HSF supports Meetings of the Myanmar Civil Societies Core Group on ASEAN (MCSCGA) with ASEAN Desk of MOFA and AIPA of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw

The key discussion were centered on the statement of ACSC/APF released on the occasion of 30th ASEAN summit held on 29-April-2017, Manila, Philippines. This included concerns for SMEs in Myanmar regarding the ASEAN Economic Community and their targets, but also discussions on migrant workers and the effectiveness of ASEAN Inter Governmental Human Rights Commission.

Led by the MCSCGA Chairperson, Dr. May Shi Sho and Co-Chair U Ngwe Thein, the Myanmar ASEAN Civil Society Network had a coordination dialogue on the 22nd of June 2017 with the ASEAN Desk of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The key discussion were centered on the statement of ACSC/APF released on the occasion of 30th ASEAN summit held on 29-April-2017, Manila, Philippines. This included concerns for SMEs in Myanmar regarding the ASEAN Economic Community and their targets, but also discussions on migrant workers and the effectiveness of ASEAN Inter Governmental Human Rights Commission. Final discussions focused on potential areas where MCSCGA and MOFA can cooperate.

The second meeting happened between MCSCGA and the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Members of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.

The second meeting on Day 2 – 23.06.2017 – was between MCSCGA and the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Members of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. The Board of MCSCGA presented the background on MCSCGA and its activities, and how the current engagement of Myanmar Civil Society Groups are within ASEAN. At last the Myanmar AIPA members were updated on the process of ACSC/APF. It is hoped that in the future there will be a closer dialogue between the MCSCGA and the AIPA members of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. The Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Myanmar once again stands ready to offer its support for the future endeavors.
