Responsible Tourism
First Tourism Destination Planning Academy (TDPA) launched in Aungban

Between October 20 and 27, the Hanns-Seidel Foundation, in collaboration with the MRTI, held the Tourism Destination Planning Academy, a pilot project designed to provide the 30 selectees from various stakeholder groups within the tourism industry – including from public sector and private sector, as well as local and regional organizations – with in-depth knowledge and skills in tourism destination planning.

Seminar groups were formed to consolidate knowledge acquired during lecturers

In order to familiarize participants with the notion of destination planning and its importance for environmentally, socially and economically sustainable regional development, academic lectures were given by national and international scholars. The newly acquired knowledge was deepened in seminars functioning as discussion groups, and applied during the highlight of the Academy – a field trip to tourism destinations around Inle Lake, where participants led their own research project on a self-selected topic.

The Academy was a full success not only thanks to the outstanding lecturers and facilitators, but also thanks of the highly motivated and engaging guests whose ideas and inputs made the Academy an educative experience for all involved. It may have been the first, but certainly not last Academy of its kind!
