Ulrich presented on the established of his eco resort in southern Rakhine state near Gwa. He also described how he engaged the community from the start of the building project to also training and employing people from the village next to his resort. The resort is entirely self-sustaining with energy and also uses compostable toilets. Other sessions in the morning focused on the role of SMEs in tourism development, how to improve support for community-level enterprises and supporting innovative business ideas in the tourism sector. A panel on the future of tourism in Myanmar and an update on the recently developed Myanmar CBT standards concluded the morning.
The afternoon included 3 workshops: 1) Community Tourism Projects in Myanmar 2) Responsibilities and Duties of Regions and States in Tourism Management and 3) (Community Led) Destination Planning.
In total over 200 participants attended each day of the conference so far. We thank all the participants for the engaging and passionate discussion.
