ISPONRE, assigned by MONRE, is leading the development of the National Action Plan on Circular Economy (NAPCE) for Vietnam. This 2nd consultation workshop on NAP CE brought together active southern participants who made significant contributions to the revision of the initial draft, ensuring the development of a comprehensive plan. International experiences in NAPCE development were shared and discussed to collect insights and anticipate challenges specific to Vietnam. Representatives from ICED, JICA Vietnam Office, DONRE Ho Chi Minh, UNDP in Việt Nam, Chatham House, the National Economics University of Vietnam, and private sector shared their research to audiences. The draft roadmap identified priority areas such as transitioning to renewable energy and emphasizing the role of the forestry industry, suggesting the issuance of a carbon mechanism and the sale of carbon credits. The plastic industry was addressed, urging a roadmap for bioplastic production. The workshop emphasized the roles of enterprises and the state, with specific tasks outlined in decrees for effective collaboration. Customization of indicators was underscored, recognizing the need for each country to develop its own set based on unique priorities.
The workshop's collaborative nature and diverse stakeholder participation set the stage for a successful NAPCE development, ensuring a well-rounded and inclusive approach to advancing circular economy practices in Vietnam. This 1st draft of the NAP CE is a promising step towards building a sustainable, resource-efficient future, fostering environmental protection and economic prosperity. Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam provides support to the development process of this important policy framework.
