Reviewing the Implementation of SDGs in Vietnam
Consultation Workshop on the Draft National Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Report 2020

In preparation for the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in addition to the formulation of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy (SEDS) 2021-2030 and the Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) 2021-2025, a National SDGs Report is compiled to update and evaluate the 5-year implementation of the Agenda 2030 for SDGs in Viet Nam, highlighting challenges and difficulties in the implementation process, and assess the possibilities for achieving each individual SDG in the country by 2030.

Consultant Vu Xuan Nguyet Hong presented the Draft National SDGs Report 2020 at the Workshop

The main purpose of the Consultation Workshop co-organised by Hanns Seidel Foundation in Vietnam (HSF) and with the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment (DSENRE) on 21st October is to introduce and review the Draft National SDGs Report 2020. The Draft Report is a result of expert and community consultations conducted from May to September this year with the involvement of diverse stakeholders including the National Assembly, relevant ministries, localities, research institutes, international and local organisations, and vulnerable groups such as ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. Besides, the Workshop also aimed at mobilising the engagement of the stakeholders in the implementation of SDGs.

During the Workshop, representatives from agencies of relevant ministries, research institutes and civil society organisations devoted a meticulous attention to difficulties faced by Vietnam when implementing SDGs, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, they also made several constructive and detailed comments on the Draft Report which should be carefully considered and integrated in the finalised Report.

The Draft Report is available for review online.

This project in cooperation with the MPI is part of HSF’s continuous efforts to fulfil our commitment to promoting the implementation of SDGs in Vietnam. We look forwards to further successful collaborations with the MPI and other stakeholders on this crucial issue in coming years.
