On 8 – 9 April 2023, the Internet Foundation for the Development of Thailand, the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Thailand co-hosted the 2nd youth camp on fighting Online Child Sexual Exploitation, especially girls, titled “GIT Girls in Tech Detecthon” at the TK Palace Hotel Bangkok. This camp is designed to empower girls and young females to understand and find possible ways to combat Online Child Sexual Exploitation. Especially in our digitally driven era, the protection of young adults on the internet requires the highest attention and care.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation would like to thank all our young participants for actively participating in our camp and we would also like to express our gratitude towards the Internet Foundation for the Development of Thailand and the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau for making this camp possible.

The target group consisted of female juveniles aged 15-20 from all over Thailand. Female juveniles statistically are more prone to online sexual harassment and other online sexual crime like blackmailing, fraud and deception. Hence an announcement was made for female youth leaders to submit and enroll in the youth camp. 50 of the young female leaders were chosen in order to spread the gained knowledge in their respective schools, clubs and entities on how to be safer on the internet.

The goal of the project was to educate young females on (1) how criminals work and more importantly (2) how to protect themselves and their close ones from online sexual threats. Furthermore, only prominent young female leaders from youth councils, schools, clubs etc. were selected that could pass on information and knowledge gained during the project to a wider audience. A systematic, step-by-step approach was developed by CCIB – Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, who demonstrated real world cases and how they got solved to our young participants.

We are thankful to have the support of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, represented by Deputy Commissioner Maj. Gen. Niwet Apawasin (middle)
