Briefing on German Political Parties
Briefing on German Political Parties in the Bundestag for University Students Organizing the Simulation of Parliament

On 5 April 2023, German Embassy Bangkok, together with Hanns Seidel Foundation, hosted a briefing on German political parties in the Bundestag for university students organizing the Simulation of Parliament, as part of the Young Political Scientists Camp in collaboration with Hanns Seidel Foundation. The purpose of the briefing was to provide the students with knowledge about the history, political ideologies, and basic values of each political party.

The Simulation of Parliament activity was designed to provide an opportunity for the participants to learn more about the works of the parliament by imitating the roles of MPs in enacting an act. The activity will be hosted at Chulalongkorn University, on 7 – 9 April 2023.

Participants will be divided into two groups; each group will assume the role of MPs and journalists. Each participant from the former group will be assigned membership of one of the six simulated political parties. Some of these parties were inspired by German political parties in the Bundestag, namely CDU/CSU, FDP, The Green Party, The Left Party and SPD. Each party has issued its manifesto to announce its political ideology. It has a leader and a secretary-general who brief and guide its members on the party’s ideology.

We hope that the briefing has enabled the organizers to accurately inform the participants about the political ideologies that are in line with those of real German political parties which shall contribute to the success of the Simulation of Parliament activity.
