7th Thandaunggyi Tourism Development Working Group Meeting held on 10th February 2016

For the last years Myanmar has been experiencing a lot of changes and development in both the political and the economic sector. This has also had an impact on the tourism sector which is constantly growing and gaining importance.

In hindsight responsible tourism including community involvement in tourism becomes more and more important. Since more than one year the Hanns Seidel Foundation is supporting a pilot project in Thandaunggyi to ensure socially inclusive, conflict-sensitive and responsible tourism development in the area.

During the meeting owners of Bed&Breakfasts presented the current situation and gave an insights on the further developments planned. Honorary Consultant Peggy Weidemann who stayed in Thandaunggyi for two weeks gave her own analysis of the situation including recommendations like an improved communicating structure and trekking tours that could be offered to tourists.
