The Delegation was comprised of members of the Join Coordination Committee (JCC) of the Parliament and administrative staff. The Members of Parliament included: U Aung Kyi Nyunt, Dr Than Ngwe and Naw Hla Hla Soe Susanna Soe.
The first day focused on getting to know the Bundestag and how the public relations and communications in the Bundestag works. This also included a lunch with the Secretary General of the Bundestag Prof Horst Risse. Apart from the meetings the delegation also had a special guided tour of the Reichstag Building where the Bundestag is situated.
Dr Sandra Michel from the Parliamentary Relations Division of the Bundesrat warmly welcomed the delegation on their second day. This was followed by a briefing from Mr Claus Koggel on the role of the Bundesrat in the federal system of Germany. A special focus and discussion on the financial equalization between the Federation and the German Länder was provided by Dr Michael Wisser.
The delegation had lunch with Dr Ute Rettler, Secretary General of the Bundesrat. In the afternoon the Delegation observed a role-play of the Bundesrat by students and had a briefing on the coordination of the interests of the German Länder. The evening was spend with the Myanmar Ambassador to Germany Ms Yin Yin Myint.
The trip was concluded on the 3rd of October which is Unity Day and Germany’s national day. It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990. The Myanmar Parliament Delegation visited the festival in front of the Reichstag to celebrate the Day of German Unity. This included visiting the booths and tents of the Germany States (Länder) at the festival site. In the afternoon the delegation observed the symbolic handover of the presidency of the Bundesrat.
