The idea for this publication stems from many years of discussing federalism at meetings workshops and conferences. Generally, the debates on federalism in Myanmar touch on the historical narratives and perspectives, in particular to the Panglong Conference and Agreement. However, there previously existed only very limited research on the historical context of the federal issue. The publication therefore adds to the background readings on the federal debate in Myanmar.
