Forum on Accountable and Representative Local Governance in Myanmar

Together with Democracy Reporting International - DRI Myanmar and the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy - DIPD Myanmar, the Hanns Seidel Foundation supported a 2-day forum on accountable and representative local governance in Nay Pyi Taw.

The forum was attended by more than 100 participants from political parties, civil service officials and civil society organisations from all over the country.

The presentation and discussion included international examples as well as current issues on developing better local democracy and strengthening the local governance in Myanmar. Moreover the discussions also elaborated on methods of decentralisation and federalism and its impact on local governance systems.

We would like to thank our partners for giving us a chance to support this multi-stakeholder forum and also the participants who contributed to a valuable exchange of ideas.
