Workshop regarding Economic Empowerment of Women in Collaboration between Hanns Seidel Foundation and Muslimat NU

The Hanns Seidel Foundation and Muslimat NU organized a training based on the jointly developed training materials for women cadres of Muslimat NU from July 24th to 27th 2019 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

Background

The Indonesian Law No. 6 of 2014 concerning the administration of villages, stipulates the principle of village democracy. It particularly emphasizes that village communities shall be empowered through the development of community independence and welfare principles. The village community shall also be empowered to utilize resources such as national programs and assistance which suit the village needs.

 

The Aim of the Training

The training aimed at increasing the awareness and critical understanding for problems regarding returning migrant workers. The training also focused on the importance of women participation in village development planning which contributes ultimately to the village welfare. One major goal of the village development planning is the development of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMdes). Returning migrant workers are expected to act as role models, who have knowledge on establishing productive businesses.

The training helped the participating villagers to acquire skills in the planning and formulation of village development plans. Besides, the training assisted them to form groups of village cadres, which work together to develop solutions to urgent economic problems in the villages.
