The Hanns Seidel Foundation, together with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) held an expert meeting in Jakarta on 19th and 20th September.

Preparation of ADR cases

The experts focused on preparing the documents for five upcoming cases which are to be arbitrated before the expert panel in the coming week. The cases mostly concern complaints against local and regional governments by private parties. The new alternative dispute resolution mechanism of the Ministry has been very successful in resolving such disputes. Hanns Seidel Foundation has supported the Ministry since the implementation of the new mechanism with expert advice and logistical support.

Draft of Standard Operating Procedures for the ADR mechanism

Furthermore, the experts discussed the drafting of guidelines for the ADR mechanism. The goal is to standardize the procedure for all cases. As the ADR mechanism is new and only a handful of cases have been arbitrated so far, more experience is needed to finalize the standard operating procedures. Hanns Seidel Foundation will continue to support the process until a comprehensive set of rules has been established and published.
