Conference on Pancasila-based Market Economy in Indonesia
HSF Indonesia and the Habibie Center hold a national seminar on the Indonesian model of market economy using the principles of Pancasila

Indonesian economic experts gathered at Le Meridien Hotel in Jakarta on the 3rd of July 2018 to discuss the importance of using Pancasila principles for the market economy in Indonesia. The keynote speech was delivered by the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

Pancasila Principles

Pancasila-based economy uses the five principles which are enshrined in the Pancasila as the basis for the economic philosophy of the country. The idea of a national seminar came about after former Indonesian President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, discussed this matter with the current Indonesian President Joko Widodo. HSF supported the Habibie Center regarding the implementation of the national seminar.

Market Economy in Indonesia

Many high-ranking officials attended the event and gave insighttful presentations on various Pancasila related topics. Amongst them were Sri Mulyani Indrawati (Ministry of Finance), Arif Budimanta (Vice Chairman of the Committee for Economy and National Industry), Armida Alisjahbana (Former Head of Bappenas from 2009-2014), and Jimly Asshiddiqie (Chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Scholar Association and former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court).

The experts talked about the current economic situation and how the Pancasila-based economy can help the country to prosper. The experts agreed that Pancasila is a unique philosophy, that is valuable to shape the economic policy of Indonesia according to the wishes and needs of its citizens.
