The Digital Industry in Indonesia

The digital industry is developing fast in Indonesia. Almost every young Indonesian has an account on Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp. The government thus sees a need to better regulate the industry. Problematic are especially fake news and internet hoaxes. Therefore, various initiatives exist to better regulate the digital industry and establish new regulations. However, this must happen in accordance with existing laws and constitutional provisions.

 

The Conference

The very timely conference at the Campus of UKI was well received. It was attended by more than 300 students and many national experts on the topic of regulation of the digital industry. Leading academics from various universities attended the event as well. Topics of discussion were, for example, new data regarding the influence of digital media and different regulatory strategies in the sector. The panelists gave important insights into their work. And research. All panelists agreed that better regulations are needed to reflect the changing landscape and developments in the digital sector.
