Background

Monitoring and evaluation are important to measure the success of a program. Different steps, such as planning, implementation, monitoring need to be carried out. Through monitoring and evaluation a benchmark for the success of the program can be developed to see if it has been going according to plan.

Pilot Project in Indramayu

The original training for women had been carried out in the previous year. Also a needs assessment had been done which identified the constraints. The empowerment program aimed at former migrant workers to develop skills and re-integrate in their villages after returning home as migrant workers. 20 representatives from Indramayu village participated in the workshop.

Results

It was concluded that the training activities by Muslimat NU in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation provided important information to the benefit for the development of the village. The participants then used the skills they learned in their own economic activities for example, regarding waste management, production of handicrafts and in the tourism sector. Also the women were active regarding village development and utilization of village funds.

However, there are still some obstacles for women, including for example, limited product marketing, lack of support from the village government.
