5th Follow-up Workshop regarding the Internship Programme on “Service-oriented Management of Police Stations”

The workshop was held in Bandung from 25 to 27 November 2019 and focused on service oriented management of police stations and citizen-friendly policing to strengthen the role of the Indonesian police in the community.

Sharing experiences

The Hanns Seidel Foundation organized a follow-up workshop to the study program that was carried-out by HSF in cooperation with the Police College Master Program of STIK-PTIK. Ten students of the master programme visited Munich, Bavaria in July to learn about citizen friendly policing methods in Germany. HSF supports the internship programme for police master students of STIK-PTIK since 2015. The programme aims at Indonesian police master students which are enolled at the police university to qualify for high-level management roles in the Indonesian National Police. to learn from the work mechanisms of the German police. The workshop was supervised by two senior German police officers from the Schwabing 13 police station, and the Bavarian Criminal Police Department (Landeskriminalamt).

Background and aim of the co-operation

The workshop aimed not only at the master programme students of STIK PTIK, but also at local police officers in Bandung. 20 officers of the local police headquarters were invited to join the activity. They benefitted from the experience and teaching of their colleagues, as well as the input from the Bavarian police officers. Various discussion formats and interactive learning sessions complemented the presentations on community friendly policing. Ultimately, the methods taught in the workshops will help to increase public trust in the Indonesian police. On the last day of the workshop, participants visited the West Java Regional Police headquarters.
