According the National Population Census of 2019, there are 11.4 million (11.9%) people over 60 years old in Vietnam, which is expected to reach 26.9 (24.8) million by 2049. Similarly, the number of people over 80 years old is also estimated to increase from 1.9 million in 2019 to 4.3 million in 2049. Aging population has been posing several challenges to not only the country’s healthcare system but also economic development, for example through the decreased size of the labour force and the impossibility of salary payment or social security system.
