Workshop on improving the efficiency of the Office of the National Assembly in international cooperation

As an important aspect of international cooperation, parliamentary diplomacy, whether through state visits or international events, opens new channels for dialogue and strengthens the work of parliaments. The Office of the National Assembly (ONA), in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), organised a workshop on this topic in Ha Long City on 23–24 August 2025.

The two-day workshop brought together forty ONA officials who are directly involved in advising and supporting the National Assembly of Vietnam in its foreign affairs activities. The event aimed to enhance knowledge, enable practical exchanges and inform an internal restructuring plan designed to boost the ONA’s efficiency in international cooperation. 

During the workshop, Ms Le Thu Ha, the Deputy Chairwoman of the ONA, emphasised the importance of enhancing the advisory capabilities of ONA officials when carrying out the National Assembly's external activities. This is particularly important in the context of the ONA's internal organisational restructuring plan, as it seeks to enhance its efficiency, especially with regard to international cooperation.

Program highlights included lectures by experts from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam on establishing and strengthening parliamentary relationships and supporting high‑level exchange visits by parliamentarians. There were interactive group sessions featuring experienced diplomats and ONA officials, offering practical insights and fresh perspectives on promoting Vietnam’s role in parliamentary diplomacy, along with focused discussions on tools, strategies, and best practices for enhancing Vietnam’s engagement in international parliamentary exchange. Overall, the workshop delivered in-depth knowledge and engaging exchanges that effectively met participants’ knowledge needs.

This workshop, which runs as part of the project cooperated by Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF) and the Office of the National Assembly (ONA). Planning activities focus on strengthening the institutional capacity of parliament and developing an effective parliamentary office to support and advise the National Assembly of Vietnam.
