Regional Cooperation for SDG12
Meeting between HSF and the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center

On May 13, 2024, the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Vietnam and the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) convened in Seoul to strengthen their longstanding partnership in advancing sustainable business ecosystems in Southeast Asia.

Mr Michael Siegner – HSF Vietnam’s Resident Representative and Mr Christ Lee – ASEIC’s Secretary General signed the 2024Partnership Agreement in Seoul.

Since 2019, the collaboration between HSF and ASEIC has established the Ecothon series – an annual competition featuring intensive training and coaching sessions that support start-ups with sustainable business models in ASEAN and foster a regional network of entrepreneurs, experts, and policymakers. Over the years, this programme, supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups of the Republic of Korea (MSS) and focal ministries in seven ASEAN countries, has evolved into a platform for capacity building, innovation, and climate action in the region.

On May 13, 2024, the two parties met in Seoul to discuss lessons learned from 2023 and strategies to overcome challenges in the upcoming year. Both organisations emphasised the importance of streamlining communication and coordination among stakeholders, enhancing public relations efforts, and refining programme development and expert selection processes. These discussions were instrumental in proposing actionable tweaks to ensure the successful implementation of Ecothon 2024 within the framework of the 2024 Partnership Agreement. With renewed commitments and a clear roadmap, HSF and ASEIC are well-prepared to drive impactful innovation and collaboration in the region, furthering their shared vision of fostering circular transition and sustainable consumption and production across ASEAN.
