In Vietnam, it has become usual for workers to move from rural to metropolitan areas for economic reasons. Even while their remittances assist their family in the rural to live better, the social repercussions of their absence on their elderly parents and young children are typically unnoticed. In light of this, HSF Vietnam and ILSSA collaborated on a study to examine the social effects of rural-urban migration on the people left-behind. Moreover, on the basis of primary information gathered through fieldwork in the province of Thanh Hoa and analyses of international and domestic migration reports, policy recommendations to mitigate the negative effects of this trend are put forth.
