In this Volume of Shades of Federalism, we are discussing different elements of federalism in a variety of countries and compare and contrast them to ongoing debates in The Philippines. We highlight how federalism reform remains relevant for The Philippines but is hampered by a lack of progress in the reform efforts and by ongoing centralized rule from Manila. Issues such as conflict resolution in Mindanao and the efficient administration of a country that comprises more than 7,600 islands remain highly salient.
